MiShare Secure File Transfer

The MiShare infrastructure provides a method approved by the UMHS Compliance Office for UMHS personnel and non-UMHS business partners to securely exchange files, including files that contain electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) or other sensitive information.

How Do I Access MiShare?

MiShare is available at mishare.med.umich.edu.

To log in, you'll need a Level 2 account and a med.umich.edu email address. Then you can send files in the form of "packages" to other UMHS personnel, or to colleagues at another institution.

Patients and other unaffiliated users can also send packages to UMHS faculty and staff by clicking the link to "Register and Send Files."

With MiShare, uploaded packages are not transferred from UMHS systems to external systems. Packages remain on the UMHS server and must be retrieved by the recipient using a provided link.

The MiShare system can transfer files either through SSH/sFTP or through a web https. It's not possible to mount a MiShare volume as a drive letter for a desktop computer. As files are uploaded and bundled in packages, they are also encrypted to allow secure transfer. Packages will be available for 5 days.

Note: Packages older than 5 days are automatically deleted.

Is This Service Appropriate for Sensitive Information?
