Open Michigan is an initiative that enables faculty, students, staff and others to share educational resources and research with the global learning community.

What is Open Michigan?

Open Michigan encourages researchers, learners, and instructors to maximize the impact and reach of their scholarly work through open sharing.

  • Faculty, students and staff can partner with Open Michigan to create Open Educational Resources, including courses, textbooks, and datasets.
  • Find, use and create openly licensed content.
  • Share your educational content with others.
  • Connect with other schools, colleges, faculty, students, and alumni.

Why Open Michigan?

Open Michigan is founded on the principle that public universities have a responsibility to share the knowledge and resources they create with the public that they serve.

Our vision is to position U-M as a leader in sharing educational resources, dramatically expanding the University's global impact and influence, and strengthening it as a point of reference for learning and teaching materials for educators and learners worldwide.

Much of Open Michigan’s activity in service of its mission is directly related to Open Educational Resource (OER) production and publishing in some form.

Open Michigan can help you in publishing your OER learning materials and tools freely and openly for anyone to use and under some licenses to adapt, improve, and redistribute. This includes lectures, presentations, and even entire courses.

How Do I Get Started?

Open Michigan provides consultation and resource production support for current projects and initiatives hosted by individuals or organizations across campus.

P2PU (Peer-to-Peer-University) can also be helpful in OER creation for Open Michigan by providing a variety of helpful online classes in subjects ranging from Creative Commons licensing to Search Engine Marketing to help you bring your course content to the public.
